How a fashion student became a bodybuilder: what is known about Princess Kalina of Bulgaria. Photo
Princess Kalina of Bulgaria surprised her subjects with a rare public appearance. In early July 2024, the royal visited the palace, where the princess's father Simeon II awarded his son-in-law Kitin Munoz with the Officer's Order of St. Alexander.
Photos from the ceremony were published on the official website of the monarchs. However, the attention of fans of the Bulgarian royal family was focused on Kalina. A month before, the heiress to the throne surprised netizens with her appearance. The princess spends a lot of time in the gym, which is the result of her impressive physical shape.
But Kalyna didn't always look like this. Once upon a time, the young art student was fascinated by completely different things. The princess even had to undergo plastic surgery, radically changing her appearance, writes HELLO.
Princess Kalina's early years: from art student to fashion muse
Bulgarian Princess Kalina is the only daughter and fifth child of King Simeon and Queen Margaret. From an early age, the royal had an affinity for art. After graduating from the French Lyceum and continuing her studies at the English College in Madrid, Kalina moved to London to enter the university, where she earned a degree in art history.
A biography published by the Vrana Palace stated that the princess was "strongly passionate about Bulgarian national embroidery, buckles, crafts and costumes." She was often seen wearing traditional clothes combined with modern accents and details.
In 2002, Princess Kalina married Antonio José (Kitin) Muñoz y Valcarcel, a Spanish navigator and explorer, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador. In March 2007, they had a son, Simeon-Hassan. From the day he was born, the prince was brought up exclusively in the Bulgarian spirit and traditions, speaking Bulgarian, Spanish, English, French and Arabic.
Changes in the princess's appearance
In the early 2000s, the princess made headlines because she underwent serious facial surgery, which led to a dramatic change in her appearance. After much speculation, Keating finally dispelled the theories, confirming that his wife's appearance was the result of an accident that occurred in her childhood.
"All the absurd theories about Kalyna's surgeries and aesthetic procedures are nothing but disinformation," he said in 2018, saying that his wife had been in an accident at the age of eight that resulted in the loss of two front teeth.
In 1999, Kalina sought the help of a dentist in London to replace them with crowns, but after complications, the princess contracted an infection that spread to the cartilage of her nose. The couple was on a sea expedition when the infection worsened. "The inability to get to the hospital and the conditions at sea caused the infection to progress and worsen, affecting part of the eye," explained Kitin.
The lifestyle of royalty
In 2023, the monarch was sentenced to an 8-year driving ban after she drove under the influence of alcohol and crashed into another car. The judgment handed down by the court in Samokov included a fine of BGN 200 (UAH 4.6 thousand) and a substantial payment of more than BGN 17 thousand (UAH 394 thousand) to cover the damage caused by the accident.
Given that she shares her husband's love of adventure, Princess Kalina has been an avid exerciser for years, but her dramatic transformation suggests that the royal has greatly improved her discipline in the gym. The 52-year-old princess has devoted herself to training in recent years, but her arm muscles were not always so pronounced. Her husband noted his wife's "excellent physical shape" thanks to "a healthy lifestyle, daily workouts and proper nutrition." "Something that is reflected not only in her good muscle tone, but also in her beautiful face," says Kitin.
