After graduating from the French Lyceum and continuing her studies at the English College in Madrid, Kalina moved to London to enter the university, where she earned a degree in art history.

A biography published by the Vrana Palace stated that the princess was "strongly passionate about Bulgarian national embroidery, buckles, crafts and costumes." She was often seen wearing traditional clothes combined with modern accents and details.

In 2002, Princess Kalina married Antonio José (Kitin) Muñoz y Valcarcel, a Spanish navigator and explorer, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador. In March 2007, they had a son, Simeon-Hassan. Given that she shares her husband's love of adventure, Princess Kalina has been an avid exerciser for years, but her dramatic transformation suggests that the royal has greatly improved her discipline in the gym. The 52-year-old princess has devoted herself to training in recent years, but her arm muscles were not always so pronounced. Her husband noted his wife's "excellent physical shape" thanks to "a healthy lifestyle, daily workouts and proper nutrition."
