Hollywood actress and Broadway star Janis Paige has died at the age of 102. She was one of the last representatives of the so-called Golden Age of Hollywood. During her 60-year career, the actress starred in many films, including The Pajama Game, the comedy Doris Day, Please Don't Eat Daisies and Silk Stockings.
Paige continued acting until she was 80 years old. This was reported by Metro.
As a child, the star starred in amateur shows, later moving from Washington to Los Angeles. She was first noticed after performing for servicemen in a Hollywood canteen in the 1940s.
After signing a contract with Warner Brothers, she began acting in motion pictures, starting with The Bathing Beauty in 1944. Two years later, she landed her first leading role.
In 1951, she left the film industry to pursue theater. In 1955-1956, she starred in her television sitcom, It's Always Jan, where she played a widowed nightclub singer trying to take care of her young daughter.
Paige grew up with a single mother who worked at the Tacoma Bank after her father left, which inspired the actress to work hard. "We always had enough food, but nothing too much. My mother worked so hard," she said.
