People's Artist of Ukraine Oleksiy Bohdanovych spoke frankly about his relationship with his brother, who lives in Russia. The actor says he does not communicate with his close relative.
The actor spoke about this in an interview with OBOZ.UA. According to Bohdanovych, his brother holds a senior position in Russia, where he left more than fifty years ago.
Famous Ukrainian actor Oleksiy Bohdanovych is from Sumy region. He comes from a large family, the fifth child in the family.
"It so happened that my sisters once stayed in Ukraine, and my brothers stayed in Russia," says Bohdanovych. "One of them is deceased, so I have only one brother left there. We stopped actively communicating with him long before February 24, 2022, because relations between our countries became tense after the annexation of Crimea. And to be honest, it is dangerous for him, not for me. He holds a senior position in Russia, so he has to dance to the tune of the authorities. I don't blame him, he's been there since he was 20, almost half a century. As soon as he graduated from college, he went to work. He started building a career, became a well-known person in certain circles, has a good financial status, real estate, in particular in Crimea. So he had a lot to lose."
Oleksiy Bogdanovych explained why he prefers not to condemn his relative's silence about the war in Ukraine: "I know my brother's position. He is a normal, adequate person. His head is not clogged with propaganda. And I don't need more than that. Let us remain relatives in my memory, not enemies."
The actor also told when his communication with his brother was interrupted: "The FSB does not sleep, it monitors everything. Knowing this, we started to communicate less at first. We talked about the weather, about my mother, who was still alive. But when the great war started, we stopped talking altogether. Our wives sometimes write each other off. But no one asks anything. I told my wife that there was no need to tell. They will find out what they want."
