This tradition has been going on since the release of War of the Worlds in 2005 when Fanning was only 11 years old. According to the Daily Mail, their friendship began after Tom Cruise gave the then little girl her dream: a Motorola Razr phone.

However, it was during this period that Fanning began to take an interest in heels, so shoes were added to the main gift.
