Future Culture: what is known about the band featuring Jerry Heil's fellow student and what their song for Eurovision 2025 is about

Ukrainian band Future Culture has made it to the top ten finalists of Eurovision 2025 National Selection, so on February 8, they will compete for the opportunity to represent their homeland in the international arena. For their performance at the national music contest, the artists have prepared the song Waste My Time.

Interestingly, one of the band members, vocalist Daria Remez, studied together with Jerry Heil, who secured third place at the contest last year with rapper ALYONA ALYONA. OBOZ.UA will tell you more about Future Culture and their entry song.

What is known about the band

The history of Future Culture began in 2022 with an impromptu performance in one of the capital's parks. Then the band's drummer Andriy Lytvynenko, bassist Oleksiy Rudenko, and guitarist Andriy Shulakov decided to help their friends close a fundraising for a car for the military, so they went out and started playing their music. That's how the band was formed, later joined by vocalists Daria Remez and Oleksiy Bodnar.

According to the drummer, when they came up with the name for the band, they didn't put too much meaning into it. However, the name still reflects the band's purpose to some extent.

"The name was invented by our bass player. First of all, it's two words that sound good together: 'future' and 'culture'. Secondly, our specialty is constant experimentation. It's like we invite people to explore with us what this culture of the future might look like," explained Andriy Lytvynenko.

It's worth noting that the band decided to apply for the National Selection quite spontaneously too. The fact is that the drummer helped Ziferblat with the arrangement of their songs both last and this year. He saw how much participation in the song contest changed the artists' creativity and increased their audience, so the musician decided to apply the song Waste My Time. At the time, Future Culture was just working on a track, so they sped up their work to meet the deadline and avoid procrastination.

The main message that the artists want to convey at Eurovision 2025 is that Ukrainian music and culture are not standing still, but are developing and keeping up with the global industry. They also aim to tell people that despite the difficult times, we have the right to relax.

What is Future Culture's song for Eurovision 2025 about?

According to the artists, the idea behind Waste My Time is that there is no such thing as wasted time, regardless of whether you spend your leisure time actively or lying on the couch. So, as the musicians noted, you shouldn't beat yourself up for spending a day "inefficiently."

"It's about the moments in life when we are doing nothing, free of work, and with close people around. It's the best way to reboot to keep fighting. Let's chill out and feel the moment," explained the Future Culture members.
