From "ugly duckling" to sex symbol: how Vera Brezhneva changed and why she did not find happiness in her personal life

Singer Vera Brezhneva from Dniprodzerzhynsk is often called the "sex symbol" of showbiz and one of the most beautiful Ukrainian artists. She gained this fame when she became the lead singer of Viagra and turned out to be one of the few members of the trio who managed to achieve tremendous success in her solo career. However, the star did not consider herself attractive for a very long time.

As is often the case, complexes about her appearance have been following her since childhood. During her school years, she was not the most popular or desirable girl, and sometimes even faced bullying. On the occasion of Vera Brezhneva's birthday, who celebrates her 42nd birthday on February 3, we decided to recall what the star was like as a child.

School years and complexes

Her mother told us that the future singer was teased at school. Her classmates would come up with insulting nicknames for Vera Brezhneva and make fun of her.

In those years, the schoolgirl wore a short hairstyle, glasses, and did not stand out for her fashionable looks. The celebrity's family lived in poverty, so she had to help her mother. Brezhneva traded at the market, mopped floors, babysat, and took on other paid work.

First steps to success

The situation changed dramatically in the 2000s. Her mother always believed that her artist daughter would grow from an "ugly duckling" into a beautiful swan and make the world know her name.

When Brezhneva's future husband, Konstantin Meladze, recognized her potential, the young vocalist's style changed first of all. Recognizable white curls, revealing clothes that emphasized her figure, and bright makeup helped the singer feel more confident.

The self-esteem of the Ukrainian woman was also influenced by how successful the Viagra band became. The artists began to be recognized throughout the post-Soviet space, and Brezhneva herself gained many loyal fans.

Her own style

For a very long time, the star's image was dictated by what the VIAGRA wanted her to look like: seductive, liberating, and bright. However, after she launched her solo career, her style began to change.

Nowadays, the singer prefers more modest clothes, low-key makeup and simple hairstyles. Dresses with a neckline down to the buttocks have disappeared into oblivion, and very laconic, sophisticated outfits have taken their place.

Vera Brezhneva no longer needs translucent clothes, cleavage, and extreme minis to feel attractive. She is much more likely to be seen in jeans, hoodies, and discreet outfits than in revealing clothes.

Personal life

Although the singer is pursued by the fame of a "sex symbol," she has not found happiness in her personal life.

At the age of 19, the then-student first fell in love with Vitaly Voichenko, who became the father of her daughter. Brezhneva's mother said that the star was disappointed in her chosen one, and he, already a successful official, admitted for a long time that he regretted the breakup.

In 2006, the singer married businessman Mikhail Kiperman, but divorced 6 years later. The singer admitted that she felt unhappy and cried a lot, but later it turned out that the story was not so simple.

We are talking about Konstantin Meladze, with whom, as it became known many years later, the singer had an affair while he was married. Meladze's ex-wife spoke about the affair, and this is indicated by the fact that the producer and his ward did get married in 2015.

It was only in 2022, when the spouses were required to take an unequivocal stance on the war, that Brezhneva and Meladze divorced.
