For the first time, Maryna Poplavska's sister voiced the reason why Diesel failed to erect a monument to the artist in Zhytomyr

Maryna Poplavska, prima donna of Diesel Studio projects

The sister of Diesel Studio star Maryna Poplavska has publicly expressed her opinion on the scandal over the installation of a monument to the actress in the center of Zhytomyr. This idea was initiated by her colleagues after the actress' death, who ordered the sculpture, but the monument was not erected.

Liudmyla Poplavska, who was accused of being the reason the monument was in the studio, gave her version of events in an interview with OBOZ.UA.

As a reminder, Maryna Poplavska passed away five years ago. Her life ended on October 20, 2018, as a result of an accident on a highway in the Kyiv region. There were 14 actors of Diesel Studio on the bus traveling from a tour in Lviv to Kyiv. At the time of the collision, Poplavska was sitting next to the driver, and she died on the spot.

As you know, after the death of Maryna Poplavska, Diesel Studio ordered a monument to be erected in her honor in the center of Zhytomyr, where Poplavska was from. This once caused a dispute between the team and Lyudmyla Poplavska. The Diesel team publicly accused the woman of forbidding them to honor the memory of their colleague.

"We wanted to erect a monument. We did. Even two. We made a monument for the cemetery and also for the city – in Zhytomyr, but Maryna's sister does not allow us to put it up," said Yegor Krutogolov in an interview with blogger Slava Demin. Later, in a conversation with OBOZ.UA, Krutogolov complained that the situation has not changed: "The sculptural composition is still in the architect's studio. It is still gathering dust."

"How could I forbid it?" Lyudmyla wonders, "It was the city's decision. The Zhytomyr City Council held a public discussion. The majority of respondents did not support the placement of this composition in the city. What influence do I have on the public discussion? I am not against honoring the memory of my sister. But I am against this particular sculptural composition, which turned out to be far from the original and became the embodiment of bad taste."
