Eurovision: which countries most often received 0 points and why it is no longer possible

Not all participants in the Eurovision Song Contest succeed in representing themselves and their country at the show. Sometimes the numbers are so bad that they do not receive a single point and go down in history as one of the most disgraceful.

Ukrainians have never faced such a problem, but there are states that received 0 points many times. OBOZREVATEL decided to tell about them (to see photos and video, scroll to the end of the page).

10 years ago, to get 0 points in the Eurovision finals was quite realistic because of the peculiarities of vote counting. However, since 2016, the rules have changed and not to get a single point has become a task, seemingly unrealistic. However, it only seemed so and in 2021, Great Britain shocked the world with its "zero" result.

The contestant from this country was not voted for by the jury, and the viewers' votes were so paltry that they did not pull up even 1 point.

Although it is now very difficult to get such a low score, it used to be a common occurrence. For example, Norway and Austria each received a shameful 0 score 4 times.

Even the "Big Five" founding countries were disgraced in the finals and did not receive a single point. The first country to become "famous" in this way was Belgium in 1962.

The scores of countries are difficult to influence. It happens that the host country of the Eurovision Song Contest shows a terrible result, which means that after winning, the state chooses a completely failed contestant. In 2015, this happened to Austria.

It is interesting that sometimes two countries received 0 points. For example, in 1997 Portugal and Norway were the outsiders.

The Eurosong-contest website notes that after 2016 it is very difficult to get 0 points, because the audience is usually more biased than the judges, and give their votes even to the worst contestants. In 2023, it will become even more difficult, because viewers from all over the world will be allowed to vote, not only from the countries participating in the competition.
