The Eurovision Song Contest, which will take place in the Swiss city of Basel in May 2025, is caught in another scandal despite the fact that the participants have not even met on stage yet. It was announced that EMMY singer (real name: Emmy Kristine Guttulsrud Kristiansen), who will perform the song Laika Party, co-written by Russian Larisa Vildanova (Larissa Tormey), will represent Ireland on the international stage.

The relevant information was published on the Eurovision World website. The artist's composition tells the story of the famous Soviet dog Laika, who was the first animal to be sent into space.

What is known about the song Laika Party

In addition to the artist herself, Erlend Guttulsrud Kristiansen, Henrik Østlund, Larissa Tormey and Truls Marius Aarra worked on the song, which helped EMMY win the Irish National Selection. Although the composition has a rather cheerful and catchy melody, it reveals the tragic story of the Soviet dog Laika. On November 3, 1957, the USSR launched the Sputnik 2 spacecraft into orbit with the dog on board. Unfortunately, seven hours after the launch, the animal, who was about two years old at the time, died of stress and overheating, as the temperature in the cabin reached 40 degrees. The dog was supposed to spend about a week in orbit, but Laika's life ended much earlier.

The judges at the Ireland's National Selection and the audience both liked the song. It received 10 points from the international jury, 12 points from the national jury, and 12 points from the audience.

What we know about Larissa Tormey

Larissa Tormey is a country singer who was born in Russia but has been living in Ireland for over 20 years. After the start of the full-scale invasion, the artist began to feel somewhat insecure about her career, as some of her fans changed their attitude towards her, and two of her performances were canceled. According to the Russian-born singer, she cried a lot because of this, but later felt support from the Irish.

According to Larissa Tormey, she does not support the bloody war that Russia has started in Ukraine, but noted that Russians are also "suffering" from the full-scale invasion. Moreover, she repeated the hackneyed narrative that ordinary Russian citizens are "innocent."

"The ordinary Russian people have nothing to do with what is happening and they are going to be victims of this as well. It's devastating to see the country going back to the old times," the country singer said.

Netizens' reaction

When Ireland announced its representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, netizens were simply shocked. Most users were outraged by the country's decision to choose an artist with a song written by a Russian.

"Ireland, what the f**k? First they send delulu-Hamas fan and now they send rusnya with a song dedicated to a dog that was tortured by Russian scientists?"

"Laika Party Soviet propaganda storyline."

"Listened to Laika Party for the first time today and I prefer the person I was before I heard it to be honest."
