Eurovision 2025 design mocked online because of "disgusting" font: what's wrong with it
On Monday, December 16, the identity and design of the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 stage, which will be held in May in Basel, Switzerland, was revealed. This year, the organizers decided to "play around" with the main logo of the song contest - the heart - and depicted it in a pop art style. However, online fans did not like this style, especially the font, which seemed primitive to many.
All lyrics at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 must be in Serif Italic (italicized). For the regular viewers of the show, it turned out to be a "greeting from the 80s". OBOZ.UA collected the reaction of the network.
Immediately after the presentation of the show's identity on Telegram, a wave of indignation swept through Ukrainian Euro fans. First of all, they showed the design, video presentation, and stage appearance. After that, there were comments.
"Sorry, but the official font for Eurovision 2025 is bad... Everything else is great!" the Slay Music Telegram channel wrote.
Despite the outrage, the first memes also appeared online. The Memovision Telegram group posted a video similar to the one that showed how the organizers of this year's show chose the font.
The video shows a girl typing something on a laptop. Then a monitor screen appears, where the slogan of the Eurovision Song Contest in recent years - United by music - is written and italicized.
Not only Ukrainians expressed their opinions about the "bad" font. Foreigners in the social network X point out that the whole identity reminds them of a return to the past. It's worth noting that the last time Switzerland hosted Eurovision was in 1988 after Celine Dion won, so the design of this year's show may be a reference to that year.
"I wonder if it looks like Eurovision last year. And what's with the fucking italics and serifs? It's 2025, not the late 80s. They should have used Helvetica or Univers instead of 'this font'," said one Internet user.
Another shared his view: "Thoughts on the Eurovision 2025 design: 1) Yes, I like it! 2) God, no, it's disgusting and uninspiring. I can't forget that font."
Someone equated it with the font that often appears on album covers of Asian artists: "The Eurovision font kind of reminds me of that awkward font style that keeps appearing on k-pop album covers."
Another user criticized the organizers' lack of creativity: "I miss the time when Eurovision gave us fresh graphics and slogans every year. Creativity, excitement of anticipation of something new... This is gone. This year's font "United by Music" is so bland and uninspired... Where is the magic we used to have?"
Eurovision 2025 organizers also showed the show's stage. The platform will have a rectangular shape with a small indentation to the audience and will be in the middle of the hall. The main attributes of this year's contest will be the snowy Alps on the screen. The colors of the Swiss flag - red and white - were matched with spotlights placed on the ceiling and around the stage.
