Emily in Paris star nearly died from tonsillitis during a trip to Thailand: it developed into septic shock and infected her organs

Ashley Park almost died from tonsillitis

American actress Ashley Park, who became famous for her role as Mindy Chen in the famous Netflix series Emily in Paris, was admitted to intensive care in critical condition with sepsis. The 32-year-old star almost died of tonsillitis, which developed into septic shock, the most severe form of sepsis.

The actress said that the disease affected her organs. She spent several weeks in the hospital and only now her condition has somewhat improved. Park shared pictures from her hospital room and details about her condition on her personal Instagram page.

As it turned out, the disease struck the celebrity's body during her vacation in Thailand at the end of December last year.

"As I sit here recovering from the first few weeks of 2024, the only word that comes to mind is 'grateful'. During my vacation in December for the New Year, what started as a tonsillitis turned into a critical septic shock that infected my organs. I am grateful that my health has improved despite what we were initially told," the actress commented.

In the beginning, Park thanked her boyfriend, also the star of Emily in Paris, Paul Foreman, whom she met on the set of the third season of the series. They played a couple in love, Mindy Chen and Nicolas de Leon, and later their on-screen love turned into real love.

Park addressed her lover, "You have been by my side unconditionally throughout this time. You calmed my fears and supported me through ambulances, three foreign hospitals, a week in the intensive care unit, scary emergency rooms, countless scans, tests and injections, excruciating pain and so much confusion while we were alone on the other side of the world away from those we know. I love you, Paul. More than I can ever say."

The actress wrote words of gratitude to the doctors and nurses, as well as her family and Paul's parents, who supported her and did everything for a speedy recovery.

Ashley's post was commented on by the lead actress of the TV series Emily in Paris, the famous actress Lily Collins. She wrote, "I can hardly look at these photos without crying. I love you, sister, and I am forever grateful to have you, and I am grateful to Paul for your incredibly big heart and for being there every step of the way. I can't wait to hug you both."
