Court sentences singers Django and Vasyl Herello for propaganda of war: how long does it take for traitors of Ukraine

Court sentences singers Django and Vasyl Herello

The Vinnytsia City Court has sentenced musician Django (Oleksii Piddubnyi) and opera singer Vasyl Herello, who were born in Ukraine but showed their support for the propaganda and policies of dictator Vladimir Putin. Both were found guilty of incitement to war and arrested in absentia.

According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, the artists now have Russian citizenship. For his propaganda activities, Vasyl Herello was sentenced to 10 years in prison in absentia, and Django – 12 years. Moreover, part of his apartment in Kyiv was confiscated. However, they will serve their sentences from the moment of their arrest.

"They were found guilty of encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine and propaganda of war (Part 2 of Article 110, Article 436 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). In addition, the band's musician was found guilty of carrying out information activities in cooperation with the aggressor state (Part 6 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)," the Prosecutor General's Office said.

The prosecutor's office proved that since 2014, Herello and Django, who are listed in the "Myrotvorets" database, have been actively supporting the occupation of Crimea and Donbas. After the outbreak of a full-scale war, they began using their concerts and public statements to propagandize and "whitewash" Russia's war against Ukraine.

Django also gave concerts in the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, performing for the Russian invaders. The court considered their actions as cooperation with the aggressor state and war propaganda.
