Could have been in space: American billionaire celebrates a lavish wedding at the foot of Egyptian pyramids
On Friday, April 26, 32-year-old American billionaire and founder of Bilt Rewards Ankur Jain celebrated a lavish wedding with his beloved, former WWE athlete Erika Hammond in front of the Great Sphinx in Giza, Egypt. The couple had long planned to exchange rings in space, but the idea was immediately rejected by the bride, who said she did not want to die on her wedding day.
They decided to move away from the traditional way of celebrating. As Jain told People, they did not have bridesmaids, a wedding cake, special decorations, and other things that are common for weddings.
"We are New Yorkers and there is something special about being in a completely different world. So we decided that our wedding is a moment together to celebrate a new beginning, a really special party with our friends somewhere where you are in another world. I am obsessed with ancient history and society. Seeing the pyramids is just crazy. We are speechless. I can't believe that this is even a part of our civilization," Ankur shared.
The couple believes that a wedding is, above all, an experience, so this was the reason for the unusual style of the ceremony. "I had no idea what napkins or table settings looked like. Why should you spend $20,000 on flowers? It doesn't make sense. And none of this should matter when you have the opportunity to sit and have dinner at the foot of the pyramids!" the man said.
However, problems with the flight almost ruined the couple's holiday. After checking in to the charter plane in South Africa, they were denied service. As a result, the wedding "opening" party took place later in the night.
"Everyone was calm when we were late and our guests [about 130 people] said, "No, we're going to keep the party going, we're going to stay... and you come when you land and we'll celebrate together.' We celebrated until 5:00 in the morning, having the best opening ever," Jain recalled.
It was during this celebration trip that the couple was able to get to know Egypt as closely as possible. Their holiday program, which was planned for about a year, included private tours of the pyramids, museums, and familiarization with local culture and traditions.
"I was literally speechless. Looking at the photos, I lived my best life. Last night I became a pop star on stage. It was the most incredible night of my life," Hammond said.
The couple first met back in the pre-COVID-19 days when Jain started going to the gym where Hammond worked. "We were just acquaintances there," she recalled. Since then, they have been in contact, and eventually a relationship.
