Cannes has decided on the winners: who won the Palme d'Or. Photos

The awards ceremony was held on May 27

The prestigious Palme d'Or for Best Film at the Cannes Film Festival went to "Anatomy of a Fall" by director Justine Triet. She became only the third female director to win the prestigious main prize of the festival.

That's what The Guardian reports. The winning film, starring German actress Sandra Hüller, was the second film by a French director to be selected for the Côte d'Azur after her dark comedy "Sivilla".

Receiving her award, Triet criticized the commercialization of culture and the attack on artistic priorities that were once part of the heritage of the French nation, and blamed the government of Emmanuel Macron.

The director noted that it was "the most intimate film I have ever made." She also dedicated her prize to "all young women directors" and "young filmmakers" and "even those who are not able to make films today."

Triet is the third woman director to win the Palme d'Or after Julia Ducourno for "Titan" in 2021 and Jane Campion, who shared the award for "Piano" with "Farewell, My Concubine" in 1993.

"Anatomy of a Fall": what the film is about

The title of the gripping psycho-thriller may be more literal than we think, as the film is about the aftermath of the fatal fall of writer and homebody Samuel (Samuel Theis) from the top floor of a chalet in the French Alps. The event itself is not shown and there are no witnesses.

However, a full two and a half hours of "Anatomy of the Fall" analyzes the possibilities that could have led to Samuel's death. Trauma reports, projections and sketches are useful in this regard, as are the testimonies of his son and his wife, the successful German writer Sandra, played by Sandra Hüller. It is she who soon becomes the prime suspect in the murder of her husband.

But the script, which Trieu co-wrote with director, actor and partner Arthur Harari, uses clever twists to advance the plot in an unconventional way.

It's worth noting that Ukrainian supermodel Alina Baikova staged an action at the Cannes Film Festival to draw attention to the war in Ukraine. The girl walked out on the red carpet wearing a T-shirt with the inscription "Fuck you Putin".

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, earlier another Ukrainian woman arranged a dramatic protest against Russian aggression on the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival.

Before the screening of the film "Acid" by French director Just Filippo, Ukrainian blogger and fitness trainer Ilona Chernobay came out to the photographers and poured artificial blood, after which she was rudely taken out.
