Can restrain a motorcycle with his beard: what is known about a Romanian circus performer who broke a number of world records

Romanian circus performer Leonardo Costache decided to turn his beard into a real tool for setting world records rather than just a stylish accessory. In July 2023, he amazed the world by stopping a motorcycle with his partner Vita Morondel at the wheel in 21.33 seconds using only the strength of his beard and jaw.

For his incredible record, 41-year-old Costache was nicknamed "Jaws". According to the Guinness Book of Records, the artist began to impress the public with his abilities in 2019, when he performed 195 juggling moves in a minute while hanging by his teeth. In 2020, he broke another record by lifting 101.3 kg, also by using his teeth.

Costache is especially famous for his unique beard stunt. In July 2023, he held back a motorcycle with his partner Vita Morondel at the wheel for 21.33 seconds. This achievement required not only strength, but also great endurance.

"During the pandemic, like many other people, I decided to grow a beard. When the time came, I said, ‘Okay I need to do something with this beard’. And I wanted to restrain a motorcycle. The strain on the skin and the hair was so strong that every time I was training this particular stunt, 30% of my hair was falling out. So it wasn’t something sustainable long term. I grew my beard for another nine months before attempting the record," the record holder admitted.

Costache and his partner Vita also set a number of joint records, including in January 2024, when the artist balanced on a pole with a giant loop on his shoulders, and the woman completed 61 loops on a bicycle in a minute. In April, the pair broke the record for turns on a pole held in the man's mouth, and in October, for synchronized turns while hanging by his teeth.

His ability to juggle while hanging by his teeth remains the most impressive. In 2024, he broke his own record three times, achieving 74 juggles in 30 seconds.
