Ballerina Ilze Liepa was deprived of Lithuanian citizenship for supporting the war in Ukraine

Ilze Liepa is no longer a Lithuanian citizen

President Gitanas Nausėda has signed a decree revoking the Lithuanian citizenship of People's Artist of the Russian Federation, ballerina Ilze Liepa. The decision was made because of her consistent and cynical support for the war in Ukraine.

This was confirmed by the President's spokesman Ridas Jasulionis, Delfi reports. The intention to deprive the Putinist of citizenship was expressed back in February.

Liepa received a Lithuanian passport in 2000, but now it threatens the national security of the country, Lithuanians believe.

The question of depriving the ballerina of her citizenship arose after her interview, in which the star did not hide her sympathies for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, called the war in Ukraine a "special operation" and expressed contempt for Europe.

Ballerina Ilze Liepa was deprived of Lithuanian citizenship for supporting the war in Ukraine

"According to the Law on Citizenship, a person can be deprived of Lithuanian citizenship not only when his or her actions threaten the interests of national security, but also when he or she publicly expresses his or her support for a state that threatens the security interests of Lithuania and/or other EU member states and/or their allies," the journalists noted.

After the full-scale invasion, Liepa condemned Lithuania for trying to get rid of the Soviet legacy and supporting Ukrainians. However, the ballerina was in no hurry to give up her second citizenship.

Therefore, the European country's Department of Migration and Ministry of the Interior helped to sever ties with her. Along with Liepa, businessman Yuri Kudimov, who was a KGB spy and hid it from the Lithuanian authorities, was deprived of his citizenship.
