Ukrainian singer, volunteer, and contestant in Miss Universe 2023, Anhelina Usanova, explained the reasons behind her failure to make it to the top 20. According to the Kyiv-based singer, the bankruptcy of the pageant led the organizers to favor participants from countries with potential sponsor interests.

Furthermore, Usanova believes that the show avoided discussing the war, leading to the contestant from Ukraine being overlooked. She shared these insights in an interview with Alina Shamanska.

The singer pointed out several factors contributing to her exclusion from the top 20 and the chance to compete for the crown in the final.

"There are numerous factors behind the results. Ukraine was not deemed interesting. The competition is officially bankrupt and survives solely on sponsors. What are the sponsors focused on? Latin America, Thailand. Not Europe and European people. Many factors influenced the top participants," explained Anhelina Usanova.

The artist aspired to win Miss Universe and is struggling with her defeat. However, even during the show, she observed the indifferent attitude of the organizers toward Ukraine.

"It's a business. It's about money. I think maybe they were afraid to raise the topic of war. I felt there was indifference. They didn't film much, they weren't interested. Even in the final interview, which influenced the top 20, there were strange questions," she recalled.

According to the participant, during the 3-minute conversation, the interviewers seemed more sympathetic than genuinely interested in the lives of Ukrainians.
