And not a single actor with a pin with the flag of Ukraine on it. A journalist noticed an interesting detail at the Oscars 2024

Stars attend Oscars 2024 with pins in support of Gaza

If you look at the photos of some of the stars from the Oscars 2024 red carpet, you will notice the same round red pins on their suits or dresses. As it turned out, these are badges from Artists4Ceasefire, a group of celebrities who wrote an open letter to US President Joe Biden demanding a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, the topic of the terrorist war in Ukraine would have gone almost unnoticed if it weren't for the victory of our film 20 Days in Mariupol in the Best Feature Documentary category.

However, even this moment - the presentation of the Oscar to the Ukrainian delegation and a powerful speech by director Mstyslav Chernov – was cut from the international TV version of the ceremony. Journalist Illia Kabachynskyi drew attention to the red pins and the absence of any such hints of support for Ukraine. He shared his thoughts on the matter on InstaStories.

"This is a story about how the world forgets what is happening in Ukraine. This badge is a kind of movement of American artists and stars for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. They say that the US and Biden should do everything to stop the fighting in the region because children and civilians are dying there. I will not touch on the topic of Gaza, Hamas terrorists, and the huge number of people who helped these terrorists, and how they killed hundreds of innocent people in Israel. I will say another thing: at the ceremony, I did not see a single actor with a pin with the flag of Ukraine on it. Zero," the journalist shared his observations.

Mark Ruffalo, Billie Eilish, Mahershala Ali, and many other world-famous stars were among those who wore the red round pin with the image of an orange hand and a black heart.

They also signed an open letter to Biden demanding a ceasefire in Gaza. Kristen Stewart, Jennifer Lopez, Ava DuVernay, and others joined the signatures of the above stars.

"Beyond our pain and mourning for all the victims and their loved ones around the world, we are driven by an unwavering will to stand up for our common humanity. We stand for freedom, justice, dignity and peace for all people – and a deep desire to stop the bloodshed," the letter reads.

Illia Kabachynskyi came to a simple conclusion: the world indifferently forgets about the war in Ukraine and ignores it. The absence of any hints of support for Ukraine from Hollywood stars is just the tip of the iceberg. Behind it lies the fact that the moment of awarding the Ukrainian film 20 Days in Mariupol was excluded from the international TV version of the Oscars. In particular, the speech of the director of the Oscar-winning film, Mstyslav Chernov, in which he recalled the war, Russian aggression, and Ukraine's connection with the world, was also cut out. At the same time, the fragment mentioning Russian "oppositionist" Alexei Navalny was left in the TV version.

Kabachynskyi commented: "It's a little bit unpleasant that the world is so cynical, but what the heck. It is obvious that somewhere out there they cannot fully share our history. Therefore, feel free to tell the international audience about everything that is happening in Ukraine - we must continue to do so in all possible ways. Make a movie somewhere, and repost it somewhere. Everything is important."
