The employee's decision came as an unexpected blow to the British royal family, as he was supposed to accompany the couple on a tour of Colombia, the Daily Mail reports. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex considered him an ideal candidate to "guide their youngest son, Charles III, through the next stage of his life."

Josh Kettler first joined Prince Harry during a May visit to the Invictus Games, a Paralympic sporting event founded by the monarch, in London. The next time the titled chief of staff was out in public, he accompanied the Duke of Sussex to the anniversary service at St. Paul's Cathedral.

Josh Kettler was also an important personality during Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's three-day tour of Nigeria. A member of the royal couple's team attended the monarch's meeting with government officials in the West African country and was supposed to accompany representatives of the British royal family during a visit to Colombia, before he quit his job shortly before.

The short tenure of the couple's "right-hand man" indicates certain problems with staff retention. Since their marriage in 2018, at least 18 members of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's team have left their jobs.

"The most telling thing is that in all my time, I don't think I've heard a single current or former employee say that they would take this job again if they had the opportunity," said one of the employees who quit the monarchs' team.
