On Monday, September 9, it became known that the famous American actor James Earl Jones had passed away, he was 93 years old. He gained considerable popularity off-camera as the voice of the Star Wars character Darth Vader.

This was reported by The Hollywood Reporter with reference to the Independent Artist Group. Jones's death was confirmed by his agent Barry McPherson, who said that the actor died at his home in the Hudson Valley region of New York on Monday morning.

Jones's career spanned several decades, he was one of the first African-American actors to have regular roles, and he was also known as the voice of CNN with the phrase "This is CNN."

James Earl Jones has won numerous awards, including two Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe, a Grammy, a National Medal of Arts, and an honorary Academy Award. In 2022, one of the theaters on Broadway was renamed in his honor (the actor made his Broadway debut in 1958 in Dawn at Campobello).

James Earl Jones was born on January 17, 1931 in Arkabutla, Mississippi. His father left the family before his son was born, and James grew up with his grandparents in Michigan. He suffered from a stutter for many years and practically did not speak until a sympathetic teacher encouraged him to recite poetry in class.

The actor made his big-screen debut in Stanley Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove, or How I Stopped Worrying and Loved the Bomb (1964).

A turning point in Jones's career was his role as Jack Johnson in Great White Hope (1970), a story about the first African-American world boxing champion that earned him an Oscar nomination.

James Earl Jones is widely known as the voice actor who lent his voice to the iconic character of the Star Wars franchise, Darth Vader. Jones and his unique, thick bass voice have been an important part of episodes 4-6 of A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi, as well as the third episode of the prequels, Revenge of the Sith.

Jones also voiced Mufasa in The Lion King animated films, a character loved by both children and adults.
