Actor Bernard Hill, who starred in Titanic and The Lord of the Rings, dies. Photo

British actor Bernard Hill, known for his roles as the captain in the movie Titanic and King Theoden in The Lord of the Rings, died on the morning of May 5. He was 79 years old.

The actor's agent, Lou Coulson, confirmed his death to the BBC. The reasons are not disclosed.

Bernard Hill's colleagues on the network say goodbye to the star, noting his talent.

"A truly wonderful actor. It was a great honor to meet him. Rest in peace, Benny," Scottish musician Barbara Dixon wrote on the social network X.

Bernard Hill was born in Manchester, Northern England, and graduated from the Manchester Polytechnic School of Drama in 1970.

He first gained fame in the UK for his role as Yosser Hughes in the TV series Boys from the Blackstuff. His character's phrase "Gizza job" became popular among protesters in the fight against Margaret Thatcher's government due to high unemployment.

In 1982, he played Sergeant Putnam in the movie Gandhi directed by Richard Attenborough, the film won an Academy Award.

The role of Captain Edward John Smith in the movie Titanic (1997) brought him worldwide fame.

He is also known for the role of King Theoden in Peter Jackson's film trilogy "The Lord of the Rings".
