Lee Redmond, who once had the longest nails in the world, dies

Lee Redmond, who once had the longest nails in the world, has died in Utah, USA. She hadn't cut her nails since 1979 and first entered the Guinness Book of World Records in 2003 with a 7-meter manicure. However, in 2008, the woman broke her record – the total length of her nails reached 865 centimeters.

Redmond's death was reported on the Guinness World Records website. They noted that the record holder was 82 years old.

Thus, in 2003, the length of the American woman's nails grew to 751.3 cm. Five years later, her manicure was re-measured on the Italian TV show Lo Show dei Record. 865 cm – this result impressed everyone, making Redmond the owner of the longest nails on a pair of hands among women in history. This title belonged to Lee until another American, Diane Armstrong, broke it in 2022.

Lee took special care of her nails, using olive oil and a special hardener. She would brush them thoroughly with a toothbrush and then apply one and a half bottles of nail polish to each nail – her signature golden one. The woman made sure that the nails did not curl, as is often the case with owners of manicures of this length.

Even at this length, Redmond's nails did not interfere with her daily life. She could easily do all the household chores, wash the dishes, use her cell phone, cut her children's hair, and even drive a car. Only once did the Lee's think about saying goodbye to their chip. It happened in 2006 when her husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. At the time, Li began to worry that her nails would interfere with her ability to care for her loved one. However, she quickly got used to it.

In 2020, Redmond was involved in a car accident in which she lost her nails, which she had taken such good care of. She admitted that it made her cry because she "lost a part of her identity."

Lee Redmond will be buried on December 21 in her native Utah. She is survived by three children, 14 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and six brothers and sisters.
