However, Mercado is now in a women's prison in northeastern Bolivia. According to local media, police found a large number of weapons and ammunition for an AK-47 rifle in her home.

Mercado will be held in custody for 30 days pending a hearing in court. The results of forensic examinations of her car provide grounds for accusations of her involvement, prosecutors say.

Mercado reportedly chose to remain silent when presented before the court. Her accomplice, Andres Vasquez, is currently on the run and wanted for questioning in connection with drug trafficking.
