After the abolition of age restrictions in beauty pageants, 71-year-old Marissa Teio applied for Miss Texas USA and competed with 74 other women. Although Arianna Wehr won, she still went down in history as the oldest contestant in the show's history.
All 75 women were judged in only three categories: self-presentation, swimsuit, and evening gown, writes Today. A month before the Miss Texas USA pageant, Teiyo said on Instagram that her goal was to break age stereotypes.
"I am so excited to be a part of this incredible new experience as a contestant in the Miss Texas USA pageant. In this way, I hope to inspire women to strive to be their best physically and spiritually and to believe that beauty is there at any age," she said with inspiration.
According to the Miss USA website, in 2023, the organizers canceled the talent competition, so it is not necessary to be able to do something and be involved in a certain field to participate in the show.
In particular, women over the age of 28 could not apply before. Now, this nuance has been canceled, and everyone born before 2006, i.e. aged 18 and older, can participate in the competition. The rule on family composition has also changed. "Starting with Miss Texas USA 2023, women who are or have been married and women who are pregnant or have children will be eligible to compete," the explanation reads.
This year's Miss Texas USA, which took place on June 22, was won by Arianna Wehr. For the award ceremony, she wore a white tight-fitting dress with sequins. Walking down the catwalk wearing a crown and ribbon, Ver carried a huge bouquet of yellow roses. She will compete for the opportunity to represent the United States at the beauty pageant on August 4.
