5 pairs of celebrity siblings who just can't stand each other
The entertainment industry is full of celebrity families: from parents to children, from brothers to sisters. However, things don't always go smoothly between relatives, especially since celebrities are under the constant sight of cameras.
Money and fame have a bad effect on family ties, The List writes. The quarrel between Julia Roberts and her brother Eric, the family dispute in Michael Jackson's family, and the tense relationship between Melania and Ivanka Trump are just a few examples. Even the British royal family has fallen into the trap of public strife. From lawsuits to a large-scale family reality show, here are five of the most epic celebrity family quarrels.
Britney and Jamie Lynn Spears
Ever since pop star Britney Spears began working with a guardian in 2008, loyal fans have questioned her safety and expressed concern for her well-being. In the case of the singer, her father James Parnell Spears became the appointed guardian. He was then responsible for Britney's decisions regarding her health, finances, business dealings, and personal life. This led the public to criticize the interests of the family, including her younger sister Jamie Lynn Spears.
When Britney filed for termination of her guardianship in 2021, she spoke of her desire to sue her family. In an Instagram post, the artist also wrote: "I don't like that my sister showed up at an award ceremony and performed my songs to remixes! My so-called support system has hurt me deeply! This patronage killed my dreams."
When Jamie Lynn Spears released her memoir Things I Should Have Said in 2022, Britney claimed that her sister was trying to make money off her name. In response, Jamie Lynn wrote on social media that the book was about her own life. "My book is not about her. I can't help the fact that I'm also a Spears and that some of my experiences are about my sister," she said.
Christopher Ciccone and Madonna
Christopher Ciccone has a bestselling book, Life with My Sister Madonna, which the singer learned about only three weeks before the presentation. "Call me," she said in an email to her brother, to which she did not wait for a response. He decided not to heed her request. Ciccone, who is two years younger than the global pop star, was once the singer's costume designer, home decorator, stunt double, personal assistant, concert tour manager, and art director.
The sibling rivalry began when Madonna did not hire Christopher as a tour director for her Drought Tour. The situation between them also escalated when the artist married the director Guy Ritchie, who criticized Ciccone's interior design work.
In his book, Ciccone condemned Madonna for allegedly not paying his salary and humiliating him, commenting on her former partners: actor Sean Penn, former personal trainer Carlos Leon, and Richie.
Kim and Kourtney Kardashian
If there's a celebrity family that knows what drama is, it's definitely the Kardashian-Jenner. Even their own reality TV series, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, lasted for 20 seasons, airing from 2007 to 2021.
In season 15, a family photo shoot caused a fight between the sisters. Kim told Kourtney that it wasn't the right time for her to take the photo because she had a job. "Maybe if you had a business that you were passionate about, you'd know what it takes to run a business, but you don't," Kim said. There was also a moment when Kim accused Kourtney of stealing her style. The sisters' jokes escalated into a fight when the former again pointed out that Kourtney didn't work as hard as the others.
Nick, Kevin and Joe Jonas
The pop-rock band The Jonas Brothers was known for their starring role in the Disney Channel musical film Rock Camp. Founded in 2005, the brothers released four full-length albums before announcing their breakup in 2013.
Shortly before this news, the band canceled their tour due to a "deep disagreement". The unanimous decision was made after Nick expressed concern about the band's future. When the breakup occurred, Joe Jonas told Vanity Fair that he needed to see a therapist and was not communicating with his brothers. "I was very angry and confused because I thought, 'I've spent so much time and effort on this for so long, and now I just need to stop and figure out what's going to happen next,'" he said. In the end, the brothers apparently forgot about the feud, as the band returned in 2019.
Kelly and Aimee Osbourne
Another famous family that gave the world a glimpse into their lives is the Osbournes. Their reality show The Osbournes, which aired from 2002 to 2005, featured musician Ozzy Osbourne, his wife Sharon, and their children Kelly and Jack. But the Osbournes have another daughter who refused to appear in the series, Aimee. She did not want to participate in the show to protect her privacy.
But do Kelly and Aimee share a sisterly bond despite the latter staying out of the spotlight? "I wouldn't say there's an ease between us," Amy told The Independent in 2015 when asked about her relationship with her sister. The singer added that she doesn't communicate with her. "We are just very different. She doesn't understand me and I don't understand her," Kelly explained.
