Exactly 37 years ago, on October 30, 1987, one of Ukraine's most popular bands, "Vopli Vidopliassova," made its debut. The band, which is considered to be the founder of Ukrainian rock 'n' roll, first made its name on the national scene by participating in the Kyiv Rock Club Festival.
Their first appearance immediately earned them the title of "Band of the Year," and their song "Yaroslavna's Lament" became "Song of the Year." OBOZ.UA decided to show how VV's debut concert was, which brought the musicians recognition not only at home but also abroad.
"Having set the national scene on fire, "Vopli Vidopliassova" decided to make a name for themselves outside of Ukraine. In 1988, VV performed in Poland, and in 1990 they toured France. After the enchanting concerts, the band's leader Oleh Skrypka, and former member Oleksandr Pipa moved to Paris, where they lived for several years.
In 1997, "Vopli Vidopliassova" returned to Ukraine. Since then, a new stage in the band's development has begun. The artists began releasing music albums, tracks from which became extremely popular among listeners and experimenting with their sound.
"We started with punk rock, then played ethno-rock, and now we're experimenting with electronic and orchestral sounds – it's a search for the perfect musical form. If you don't change, don't develop, you stop. The need of every artist is to be updated, and to grow professionally. Even the well-known songs that we have been playing for many years, we always try to perform in a new way, to look for other options for presentation, to make the song sound bright," said Oleh Skrypka.
"Vopli Vidopliassova" members are actively involved in the public life of the country. After the outbreak of war, the musicians repeatedly performed for the defenders, and in 2016 they organized the "Vopli Vidopliassova Front Tour," where they sang to soldiers on the front line in Maryinka, Kostiantynivka and Selidovo.
