US Space Force is preparing to deploy ground-based jammers to 'responsibly' counter Russian and Chinese satellites - Bloomberg
The United States is preparing jamming devices to target Russian and Chinese satellites

The United States is going to deploy a new ground-based jamming system to prevent Chinese or Russian satellites from transmitting information about American forces during a conflict. The Pentagon has already conducted the first tests of such devices.

Bloomberg writes about this, citing a statement by the U.S. Space Force. It is noted that these devices are intended not to protect US satellites from Chinese or Russian interference, but to "to responsibly counter adversary satellite communications capabilities that enable attacks."

The first 11 of the 24 Remote Modular Terminal devices that will interfere with enemy satellites will be deployed in a few months. The terminals are small, transportable, and inexpensive satellite jamming devices that can be deployed in difficult environments to protect U.S. forces, according to the Space Rapid Capabilities Office.

The Remote Modular Terminal system will complement a much larger jamming weapon called the Counter Communications System, which was deployed earlier, and a medium-sized weapon called Meadowlands. The new devices will allow for large-scale capabilities that are remotely controlled and relatively easy to move.

The United States emphasizes that it views the new ground-based jamming system as defensive and narrowly focused. This is different from the space-based nuclear weapons that the United States says Russia is developing. It can generate high-altitude electromagnetic pulses that will destroy satellites and disrupt entire communication networks.

As reported, the aggressor country Russia launched a satellite on May 16, 2024, which is probably a weapon capable of not only surveying but also attacking other satellites in space. It is called Cosmos 2576.
