Slovak Prime Minister Fico wounded in shooting – media

On May 15, an assassination attempt was made against Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. He sustained a gunshot wound in Handlove.

The official is currently hospitalized, and the attacker has been detained. This was reported by the Slovak media.

According to Denníka N, the shots were fired in front of the House of Culture, where the government meeting was taking place when the prime minister came out to the people. The reporter of this publication did not see it happen but heard several shots.

"Then he saw the guards lift the prime minister off the ground, load him into a car, and drive away. According to witnesses who were at the scene, Fico approached the people who were greeting him, after which several shots were fired. Fico then fell to the ground," the report said.

The media reported that Robert Fico was wounded in the chest and stomach. He was evacuated by helicopter to a hospital in Bratislava.

"There was a crowd of people outside, and one of them started shooting. He was immediately subdued and detained, and the prime minister was taken away by bodyguards. According to our information, the shooter was aiming at the prime minister himself," said another eyewitness, a journalist from HN.

Denníka N adds that the alleged attacker was neutralized and detained by police. The police cordoned off the area and evacuated the cultural center. Security guards took care of the safety of other members of the government.
