Polish police commented on the detention of a Ukrainian journalist

Poland has issued a statement regarding the detention of Ukrainian journalist Mykhailo Tkach and his cameraman near the Polish border. They confirmed that the men were detained to identify them and check the reasons for their stay at the railway junction.

This was reported on the website of the Polish police. It was noted that after the check, the journalist and cameraman were released and all documents and belongings were returned to them, but the video footage was not specified.

As noted, the police received a report from a concerned Pole about two people who had been in a car for two days near the railway junction in Golashyn, near the Polish border with Belarus. The men were taking pictures and using a drone.

"Taking into account the internal security of the country and the fact that railroad tracks, especially in border voivodeships, are strategic places in terms of security, the police intervened with the said persons. Both men spoke Ukrainian and identified themselves as journalists. The vehicle had electronic devices, a drone and cameras. Due to the language barrier and the need to check the documents provided, it was necessary to carry out activities at the police station," the police said in a statement.

It is noted that after checking the documents, inspecting the contents of the luggage and drawing up the relevant documentation, the men left the police station. All their documents and belongings were returned to them and no one allegedly reported any damage to the equipment.

As a reminder, Mykhailo Tkach, a journalist from UP, was detained in Poland near the border with Belarus. He and his cameraman were filming materials about the transit of products between Poland and Russia. Polish police have already released them, but some of the footage was deleted. The journalist said that Polish law enforcement officers approached the film crew, and after a short conversation, they began to grab the cameras and search the journalists. During the search, the police damaged the battery charger.

As previously reported, in December last year, UP journalist Mykhailo Tkach was attacked near the Tandyr restaurant in Kozyn village, Kyiv region. In this regard, the Kyiv regional police opened a criminal investigation.
