In Munich, Borrell called on China not to support Russia and join the Ukrainian Formula for Peace

High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell called on China not to support the aggressor country of Russia. The diplomat said this after meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on Friday, February 16.

This was reported by the Delegation of the European Union to the People's Republic of China. During the meeting, Borrell expressed the EU's hope that China would refrain from supporting Russia.

He also called on Beijing to join the Ukrainian Formula for Peace, in particular by joining the Global Peace Summit. The diplomat reiterated that the EU is determined to support Ukraine with both military assistance and civilian support.

The parties touched upon the global destabilizing impact of Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine.

In addition, Borrell discussed bilateral relations between the EU and China with Wang Yi, in particular the outcome of the EU-China summit held in December 2023.

"Regarding Taiwan, Borrell explained that the EU's position remains unchanged in support of the One China policy, emphasizing that the EU wants to preserve peace and stability in the region. The High Representative expressed his hope that the next EU-China human rights dialog will take place in the near future. He invited his counterpart to visit Brussels to continue the discussion on war and peace," the statement said.
