For the first time since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Bulgaria has officially announced a military aid package for the Ukrainian military. It will include a hundred units of armored vehicles from the arsenal of the Bulgarian security forces.

This is reported by Euroactiv, referring to the statement of the Parliament on July 14. The APCs were purchased four decades ago for Sofia's own needs, but have never been used since.

"These are armored military vehicles bought during the Renaissance Process and never used. Thus, it leads to storage and maintenance costs," said Ivaylo Mirchev, a deputy of the ruling coalition "We Continue Change - Democratic Bulgaria".

We would like to point out that this is the first package of not humanitarian but military aid that Sofia is sending to Ukraine. In return, Bulgaria expects to receive modern equipment for combat infantry from the United States worth $1 billion.

Earlier OBOZREVATEL reported that Kyiv and Sofia on July 6 signed a Joint Declaration on Ukraine's accession to NATO. According to the document, Bulgaria supports the acquisition of Ukraine's membership in the Alliance as soon as conditions allow it.
