Biden wants Republicans to approach Ukraine aid in good faith - White House

Biden expects Republicans to take good faith approach to unblocking support for Ukraine

The U.S. presidential administration has approached negotiations on migration reform in good faith. The White House expects the same approach from Republicans in Congress to unblock aid to Ukraine.

This was stated by National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby during a briefing on Wednesday, December 19. He was responding to a request from journalists to comment on Volodymyr Zelenskyy's statement that the US and EU would not betray Ukraine.

"The President - he said it personally - is confident that we are approaching this in good faith. We want our colleagues in Congress to approach these discussions in good faith as well," the National Security Council coordinator emphasized.

Mr. Kirby also confirmed that "some progress" had been made in the negotiations between Republicans and Democrats in the Senate, including with the participation of representatives of the Presidential Administration. However, he noted that he did not want to get ahead of events with predictions.

"Some progress has been made, I won't get ahead of myself, we have to see how things develop," he said.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky commented at a press conference on December 19 on the possibility of a new aid package from the United States, which Congress has not been able to agree on for several weeks. He expressed confidence that "the United States will not betray us, and that what we have agreed on, the United States will fulfill in full."
