What missile shot down Prigozhin's plane: the US has put forward a version
Representatives of the US administration believe that the plane carrying Yevgeny Prigozhin and other executives of the private military company Wagner was hit by a missile. It was launched from the territory of the Russian Federation.
This was reported by Reuters, citing US officials who commented on the matter on condition of anonymity. Experts stressed that this is only preliminary information.
According to sources who provided information to the agency, the United States authorities tend to interpret the events in such a way that the plane carrying high-ranking members of the private military company Wagner was hit by an anti-aircraft missile fired from the territory of Russia.
They stressed that these are preliminary assumptions and that the situation continues to be analysed.
As reported by OBOZREVATEL:
- CNN reported that satellite photos of Prigozhin's plane show that the fuselage of the plane, which was carrying the leader of the Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin, was almost intact when the aircraft hit the ground;
- ISW believes that Putin almost certainly ordered the military command, represented by the Ministry of Defence, to shoot down the plane belonging to Evgeny Prigozhin's PMC Wagner. The plane crashed in the Tver region of Russia on 23 August, and Russian media have already confirmed the deaths of the leader and deputy of the private military company in the crash.
- Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has officially confirmed the death of the founder of the Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin. The Kremlin leader called him a talented businessman and a man of "difficult fate".
