Ukraine is about to open new camps for prisoners of war: there are many more of them

Due to the growing number of Russian prisoners of war, a new camp for their detention is planned to be opened in Ukraine in the near future. In parallel, preparations are underway to launch another camp.

This was reported on the official Telegram channel of the I Want to Live project. The increase in the number of prisoners of war is due to both the aggravation of the situation at the front, which affects the motivation of Russian soldiers, and the delay in the process of exchanging prisoners of war by Russia.

As with the Zapad-1 camp, the conditions in the new camp will meet all the requirements of international humanitarian law. The Russian military will be provided with medical care, regular meals, the ability to communicate with their families, and constant access to representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The camp is located deep in the rear, as the detention of prisoners of war in specially designated places is provided for by the Geneva Conventions.

It is important to emphasize that Ukraine adheres to international humanitarian standards, unlike Russia. The occupiers hold Ukrainian prisoners of war in ordinary prisons and penal colonies together with civilian prisoners, sometimes in inhumane conditions, and do not recognize their status as prisoners of war.

Earlier, the network showed the conditions in which the occupiers who were captured by the Ukrainian Armed Forces are held and what they say about the war in Ukraine. According to the documentary, the camp provides prisoners with decent living conditions. They even have a library, a football field, a swimming pool with fish and a church.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, Russian prisoners of war held in the camp in Lviv region are asking the Ukrainian authorities not to exchange them until their contracts expire or even until the end of the war. The occupiers do not want to take part in hostilities anymore and become "cannon fodder."
