They were in a car and were returning from church: minister tells about the victims of the attack on Chernihiv
Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko has arrived in the centre of Chernihiv, where the occupiers staged a rocket attack during the Apple Savior celebrations. He assured that National Police officers were going round the nearby houses to make sure that citizens were safe and to prevent looting.
The footage of the official's comments was published by the agency's press service. Klymenko stressed that at the time of Russia's strike on the Drama Theatre and the square near it, the city was full of people: many mothers with children, believers who were going to the church to bless fruit (to watch the video, scroll to the end).
"Everyone who went to the shelter near the Drama Theatre survived. Most of the victims and injured were people who were crossing the road, travelling in cars, or returning from church. During the air raid alert, law enforcement officers escorted people to the shelter," he said.
According to the minister, the prosecutor's office has already opened a criminal case on the fact that Russian soldiers committed a war crime. After the missile strike, rescue services and police began to help the wounded on the spot.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the moment of the missile attack on the centre of Chernihiv was captured on CCTV. According to the latest reports, seven people were killed in the attack, including a 6-year-old girl. Another 117 people were injured, including at least 12 minors.
