Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi addressed Ukrainian defenders on the tenth anniversary of the start of the anti-terrorist operation in the east of the country. The Colonel General emphasized that the announcement of the ATO was a reaction to the capture of Sloviansk by a special unit of the Russian Federal Security Service on the orders of the Kremlin head.

Syrskyi thanked the defenders who joined the ranks of the Ukrainian Security and Defense Forces in the spring of 2014. The chief's address was published on Facebook.

According to Syrskyi, he honorably served as Chief of Staff of the Anti-Terrorist Operation, Deputy Head of the Anti-Terrorist Operation and Head of the Anti-Terrorist Operation. The general expressed his gratitude to the soldiers who stood up to defend the country from Russian terrorists and aggressors who brought suffering and death to our land 10 years ago.

"On this day, we must remember and commemorate all Ukrainian defenders who laid down their lives for the freedom of our country in opposition to the Russian invasion. Eternal glory and eternal memory to our heroes! The struggle continues," Syrskyi said in his address.

Earlier, Syrskyi said that the situation on the frontline in eastern Ukraine has deteriorated significantly in recent days. The occupation forces have intensified their offensive, with repeated attempts at attacks taking place, in particular, in the Lyman, Bakhmut and Pokrovsk directions.

As a reminder, the Russian occupiers, using air superiority, missiles and artillery ammunition, are trying to reach the administrative border of the Donetsk region at any cost. The situation is particularly difficult in the Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Novopavlivka sectors.
