Scholz should not prevent the "ring" exchange of Taurus missiles for Storm Shadow ones - Bundestag MP

Bundestag supports British missile exchange proposal

Anton Hofreiter, a member of the German Bundestag from the Green Party, called on German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to support the British proposal, an exchange of German Taurus missiles for British Storm Shadow ones to provide Ukraine with long-range weapons.

The MP's statement is being spread by the German media. According to Hofreiter, "it would have been better if Chancellor Scholz had not blocked the delivery of Taurus to Ukraine."

"But until Ukraine receives more cruise missiles, the proposed 'ring exchange' is an opportunity," Hofreiter said.

As reported, the UK is considering the possibility of transferring additional Storm Shadow missiles to Ukraine in exchange for Taurus ones from Germany. London does not share Chancellor Scholz's concerns that the supply of Taurus missiles could escalate the conflict, so it offers a "ring exchange" of missiles as an option.

Earlier, Ukraine stated that it was ready to agree to the condition of not hitting targets in Russia with German long-range Taurus missiles if they were transferred to the Ukrainian army. The fact that Ukraine is strictly fulfilling such obligations can be confirmed by countries that have already transferred weapons to the Ukrainian army with similar restrictive conditions.
