Russian army starts using "smart" drones with machine vision in Ukraine - expert
Russian troops are using so-called smart drones with machine vision on the frontline in Ukraine, which can hit targets bypassing electronic warfare systems. The occupiers do not need to be professionals to operate such a device.
Serhii Beskrestnov, a radio technology expert with the call sign Flash, told about this during TV marathon. According to him, the first time such a development of the enemy was recorded about three weeks ago in the Kherson sector.
The expert says that at first, the Russian military tried to attack the Ukrainian marines' boat with another drone but it was blocked by warfare.
"They launched a test model of a drone with machine vision, which managed to hit it," Beskrestnov noted.
He emphasized that UAVs equipped with machine vision can detect and track moving objects over long distances. In addition, their work is not affected by potential image loss caused by EW.

This reduces the requirements for pilots, who only need to be able to lift the UAV, bring it to the target and fix it. Then the "smart" device will be able to fly and attack on its own.
Flash added that machine vision is different from artificial intelligence, which includes neural networks with learning capabilities.
"It will take decades before AI will be able to independently control drones in combat," the radio technology expert believes.
