Rubio: The war in Ukraine will not be concluded by reaching "maximalist goals"

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has reiterated that neither Ukraine nor Russia will achieve "their maximalist goals" in this war. For the war to end, negotiations are needed, and negotiations will mean that both sides will have to make concessions.

In an interview with journalist Megyn Kelly, the secretary of state said that "a lot of hard work" needs to be done to end the war and that it will take some time. According to him, both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian dictator Putin "have their own domestic interests."

"If you imagine that you are a Ukrainian, the Russians made you suffer so much, and now you will allow them to leave the land (under Russian control – Ed.)? I mean, people in Ukraine would be upset about that, and that's understandable," Rubio added.

At the same time, the head of the US foreign policy department said that there are "more mature realities of life." Both Ukraine and Russia are paying a heavy price and are interested in seeing the war end.

"It's not going to end with the maximalist goals of one side, and there's a lot of hard work to be done. And I think that only the United States, under the leadership of President Trump, can make this possible. It will not be easy, and it will take some time. But I know that he (Trump – Ed.) is determined to make it happen," Rubio emphasized.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, earlier Marco Rubio emphasized that the key task facing the White House is to find a solution that would ensure that the war does not break out with renewed vigor in a few years.
