Canada to provide over $24 million for air defense systems for Ukraine

Canada will contribute approximately $24.5 million (33 million Canadian dollars) to the UK-led international partnership to procure air defense systems for Ukraine. This contribution is part of the $500 million in military aid to Kyiv that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced in June.
According to The Guardian, Bill Blair, Canada's defense minister, announced the funds for Ukraine to help it defend itself against Russian missiles and drones on September 17. The aforementioned community also includes the United States, the Netherlands, and Denmark.
These states have set as their goal the purchase of short- and medium-range air defense systems, as well as other equipment and machinery necessary to counter enemy missiles and UAVs.
The journalists noted that Canada is home to one of the world's largest Ukrainian diasporas. Since the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Ottawa has provided Kyiv with more than 8 billion Canadian dollars in aid (including about 1.8 billion in military aid).
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the new Ambassador of Canada to Ukraine, Natalie Tsmots, arrived in Kyiv in August 2023. She said that she would continue to work to support the state as part of her mission.
