"You can't do this": Russian Olympic champion suddenly says Russia violated international rules

The upcoming appointment of Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev as president of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) is a violation of international norms. The rules prohibit a Cabinet official from simultaneously holding the position of head of the national committee, but Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin has already approved the combination.

This statement was made by Olympic champion Dmitry Vasiliev in an interview with VseProSport. The former biathlete noted that in the future, "when there is a return to international competitions," Russia will have to solve this problem and abandon the combination.

"If you think about it from the point of view of the Olympic Charter, you can't do that. I don't want to sound like a lawyer, it's better to check with the regulations experts. In any case, at the moment, when our athletes are suspended from the international arena, this decision may be a good one. But in the future, when they return to international competitions, we should abandon the combination," Vasiliev said.

It should be noted that Degtyarev has already become a laughingstock on the Internet after he thanked dictator Vladimir Putin for "permission to run for the post of head of the ROC."
