Ukraine has started with a victory at the European Football Championship U-21
The Ukraine national youth soccer team defeated their peers from Croatia at the European Championship U-21, which takes place from June 21 to July 8 in Romania and Georgia. The match in Bucharest ended with a score of 2-0.
From the first minutes both teams played very cautious soccer, understanding that the main task is not to lose. Ukraine had the initiative and territorial advantage, but realized that the Croatians had dangerous attackers. "Yellow-blue" tried not to open up as much as possible, so the game went more in the center circle without dangerous moments.
On 19 minutes Olexiy Kashchuk outplayed four players and opened the scoring with a soft shot from the bar.
This changed the pattern of the game. The Croatians began to play first number, while the "yellow and blue" switched to a counterattacking model.
The second half started with a fairy tale for Ukraine. The first attack was effective. Kashchuk crossed from the flank, and Sikan jumped over the defender and sent the ball under the bar.
Croatia couldn't find its game, got nervous and often broke the rules rudely. Near the middle of the half, the Knucklebones got back in rhythm, staging a real assault. On 61 minutes, only incredible luck allowed Rotan's charges to avoid a goal. Stojkovic's shot hit the crossbar.
Ukraine played very inertly in front of their goal, allowing the Croatian attackers to hit the gate Trubin. Despite this, the spectators did not see more goals.
In the second round of the youth team of Ukraine will play on June 24 against Romania. The kick-off time is 19:00 Kyiv time.
