Spanish championship match canceled due to deadly tragedy in the stands
The Spanish football championship match between Granada and Athletic Bilbao in La Liga was canceled after the death of one of the fans. According to local media reports, in the 18th minute of the match, one of the fans in the stands of the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes stadium in Granada had a heart attack.
The match's chief referee Miguel Ortiz immediately interrupted the game, and the club's medical staff rushed to the victim.
Despite all the doctors' attempts to save the spectator, it was unsuccessful. After the resuscitation team officially confirmed the death, Ortiz decided to stop the game.
At that point, Athletic was leading 1-0 thanks to a goal by Iñaki Williams in the 6th minute.
The spectators sat in the stands for about an hour until the referee officially announced that the match would not resume.
