The Russians managed to equalize the score only 18 seconds before the end of the game (4:4). No goals were scored in extra time. Mikhail Likhachev's wards lost to Iranian players (4:3) in the penalty shootout.
Iran will play against Belarus in the deciding match. The hosts of the Games defeated Oman (0:4) in the 1/2 finals.
As reported by OBOZREVATEL, the Russian Ministry of Sports called the CIS Games one of the main starts for Russia in the season, becoming a laughingstock on the network. Fans mocked the level of the competitions that are called the "alternative Olympics," reminding the official that the Russian handball team won 76-1 the previous day.
