Zelenskyy says Ukraine is ready to supply anthracite for thermal power plants to Moldova and unrecognized Transnistria. Video
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is ready to supply coal for the operation of thermal power plants in unrecognized Transnistria. The Head of State emphasized that Ukrainian specialists are ready to go to the site to ensure the operation of thermal power plants using Ukrainian anthracite.
The President emphasized that Tiraspol is aware of Ukraine's readiness to supply coal. Zelenskyy said this at a joint press conference with Moldovan President Maia Sandu.
According to the head of state, Ukraine is ready to provide Transnistria with anthracite to ensure the operation of thermal power plants. Moreover, Zelenskyy noted that 220 GW of energy needs to be produced to provide the entire territory of Transnistria with electricity. Ukraine can ensure the functionality of the CHPP in this amount.
At the same time, Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukrainian coal is already being used in Tiraspol. However, it is anthracite that Russia is stealing from the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
"We have coal that we can supply to Moldova, we can supply to Tiraspol. If they really want people to get energy. They can say today that this coal is not technically suitable, but they are using Ukrainian coal – anthracite, which was stolen by Russia after the occupation of parts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. That's where they took and simply stole our coal, and some of this coal was sent to Tiraspol," Zelenskyy said.
As a reminder, Russia stopped gas supplies to the Transnistria it controls not because of the suspension of transit through Ukraine, but because of the debt of the Moldovan gas distribution company Moldovagaz. Gazprom has allegedly never made any financial claims to the unrecognized republic.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, the declared state of emergency in the energy sector continues to operate in Moldova. On December 31, the Ministry of Energy reported that in January 2025, Moldova will import most of its electricity from neighboring Romania, and 30% will be provided by local thermal power plants.
