President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is preparing to restore diplomatic relations with Syria. This country will join as another reliable partner.
The President announced this on his Telegram channel. He also thanked everyone involved in the results of these negotiations.
"The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha and the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Vitalii Koval have just reported on their talks in Syria and Lebanon with the new Syrian administration, with Lebanese business, and our prospects – both security and trade – in the region as a whole. This year, we can add more countries to our reliable partners, including Syria," Zelenskyy said.
According to him, Ukraine plans to restore diplomatic relations with Syria and cooperation in international organizations. The President expressed gratitude to the Ukrainian intelligence for the security basis of these contacts.
"I am grateful to all our government officials, diplomats, Ukrainian companies – everyone who ensures our ties with the world. And, of course, I want to thank each of our soldiers, all the units that ensure the security of our export routes, especially in the Black Sea. The Defense Forces, the DIU, the Security Service of Ukraine, foreign intelligence – absolutely everyone involved – thank you," Zelenskyy summarized.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, on December 30, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha arrived in the Syrian capital Damascus, and met with the leader of the "Hayat Tahrir al-Sham" Islamist movement, Abu Mohammed al-Julani. The topic of conversation was the restoration of diplomatic relations.
Sybiha believes that the resumption of diplomatic presence will allow to increase trade with Damascus, and cooperation in the fields of science, technology, culture, and education.
The day before, Zelenskyy announced the shipment of 500 tons of Ukrainian wheat flour to Syria as part of the Grain from Ukraine humanitarian program, emphasizing that the country had fulfilled its promises to the Syrian people.
