Zelenskyy: Putin wants to use Trump as a prop in Moscow on May 9
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is simply using US President Donald Trump. The head of state noted that the war criminal wants to use Trump as a "prop" at the May 9 parade in Moscow.
Zelenskyy emphasized that Putin wants to talk to the United States one-on-one, without involving Ukraine and Europe in the diplomatic process. The Ukrainian president said this in a speech at the Munich Security Conference.
According to the president, no decisions regarding Ukraine can be made without Ukraine itself. Zelenskyy warned that if European countries stay out of negotiations about their own future, everyone will lose.
"Look at what Putin is trying to do now. This is his game. Putin wants one-on-one talks with America, just like before the war, when they met in Switzerland and seemed to be going to divide the world. Next, Putin will try to make the US president stand on Red Square on May 9 – this year – not as a respected leader, but as a prop in his own play," Zelenskyy said.
The President of Ukraine noted that our country needs real peace with guarantees that will prevent the recurrence of Russian aggression in the near future.
"Some in Europe may not fully understand what is happening in Washington. But let's focus on understanding ourselves – here in Europe. We must give strength to Europe first and foremost. Does America need Europe? As a market, yes. But as an ally? I don't know. For the answer to be yes, Europe needs a single voice, not a dozen different voices," the president said.
As a reminder, US President Donald Trump said that he did not see the possibility of Ukraine's membership in the North Atlantic Alliance given Russia's position. In his opinion, Moscow "will not allow" the country to join NATO.
Earlier, the United States said that the issue of Ukraine's borders would be "part of the discussion" in talks with Russia. At the same time, they called the restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity "unbelievable."
As OBOZ.UA reported, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson expressed confidence that US President Donald Trump would not betray Ukraine. According to him, the head of the White House cannot begin his presidency by defeating the West and allowing Russian dictator Putin to humiliate NATO.
