Zelenskyy explains under what conditions he can resign from the post of President of Ukraine

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that he admits the possibility of leaving the post of head of state. However, he is ready to do so only after the war is over.

He made the statement in an interview with the BBC in London on July 18. As the publication reminds, Zelenskyy has been the head of state since 2019 and throughout the full-scale Russian invasion.

Although elections were supposed to be held in 2024, Ukraine's constitution excludes them during martial law.

In the interview, Zelenskyy said that he was open to the possibility of leaving the presidency.

"But only after the war is over," he said.

As OBOZ.UA reported earlier, the head of the CEC of Ukraine, Oleh Didenko, said that Russian propaganda is actively spreading fakes about Zelenskyy's alleged "loss of legitimacy" after the end of his five-year presidential term, but this issue is unambiguous, since, according to the law on martial law, any elections cannot be organized during such a period.

At the same time, according to Didenko, the state may need to further regulate the legislation to hold presidential elections even after the martial law is lifted. The Verkhovna Rada will likely adopt new laws.

The Center for Countering Disinformation explained that fakes about Zelenskyy's "illegitimacy " are one of the key elements of the enemy's large-scale IPSO aimed at destabilizing the situation in Ukraine.

The EU has stated that it does not doubt Zelenskyy's legitimacy because of the impossibility of voting during martial law – it is impossible to hold democratic presidential elections in a time of war.
