During the meeting, the President thanked the EU for today's decision to extend sanctions against Russia for another six months.

"Among our main topics is the strengthening of sanctions pressure on Russia, the 16th package of sanctions. We appreciate today's decision of the EU to extend sanctions against Russia for another six months. It is important to continue to put pressure on Putin, and sanctions are one of the really strong tools," Zelenskyy emphasized.

One of the key topics of the conversation was the expected 16th package of EU sanctions against Russia. Ukraine hopes for the adoption of strong decisions that will limit the ability of the aggressor state to continue the war, the Head of State noted.

The parties also discussed military assistance. President Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of developing the Ukrainian defense industry, in particular the production of drones and long-range weapons, which will help strengthen Ukraine's position in the fight for a just and lasting peace. The parties discussed the possibilities of financing such production, in particular at the expense of frozen Russian assets.

Special attention was paid to preparations for the informal meeting of EU leaders on February 3, initiated by Antonio Costa. Ukraine is looking forward to the launch of new initiatives to supply ammunition and support military needs.

The meeting also discussed Ukraine's integration into the EU. Zelenskyy announced his intention to open several clusters in the EU accession negotiations in the first half of this year and counts on the support of the European Council to ensure unity among member states.

President of the European Council Antonio Costa reaffirmed his unwavering support for Ukraine, emphasizing that a just and lasting peace is essential not only for Ukraine but for the whole of Europe. "We will be with you for as long as it takes," he summarized.

Less than two weeks ago, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda in Warsaw. They discussed further cooperation between the countries, defense assistance, and the approach of a just peace.
