Why didn't Zelenskyy wear a suit? The congressman showed the hypocrisy of Trump and his team in one photo

One of the complaints of U.S. President Donald Trump and his Vice President J.D. Vance against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was the latter's lack of a suit during his visit to the White House. Trump and his entourage saw Zelenskyy's commitment to not return to business suits while the war in Ukraine continues as "disrespect for the American people."

At the same time, billionaire Elon Musk's completely informal style of dress, in which he constantly appears in the US presidential administration, does not cause any complaints from the new US government. Democratic Congressman Eric Swalwell drew attention to this manifestation of hypocrisy by Trump and his entourage.

"Why Zelenskyy wasn't wearing a suit in the White House!" the politician wrote on his account on the X network, adding a photo with Musk in his usual outfit.

Axios wrote that Trump's advisers repeatedly told Zelenskyy's team that he should "abandon his military uniform during his visit to the White House." The President of Ukraine arrived in Washington not in khaki, but in black with national symbols. However, this also angered Trump.

Attacks on Zelenskyy's clothing began even before he met with the US president. At first, Trump himself focused on the Ukrainian president's clothes. Meeting him near the West Wing of the White House, the American president said, "He's all dressed up today."

Already in the Oval Office of the Trump administration, journalists asked Zelenskyy when he would put on a business suit again for official events, which he had abandoned since the beginning of full-scale Russian aggression. One of the journalists asked if Zelenskyy even had a suit and received an affirmative answer.

"Some Americans are unhappy that you don't respect the official style," the media representative went on to say.

"I will wear one when the war is over. Maybe it will be the same as yours. Maybe better. Maybe cheaper. We'll see!" the Ukrainian president replied.

This is not the first time that the issue of Zelenskyy's clothes has been raised in Trump's environment. Last December, former Trump adviser Roger Stone criticized the Ukrainian president's appearance at the opening of Notre Dame Cathedral, which was restored after a fire, after which he met with the US president.

"Everyone is dressed in business suits. But not Zelenskyy. He's wearing a sweater and a jacket. He should be ashamed of himself," the New York Post quoted Stone as saying.

Stone also added that the Ukrainian leader's attire was "disrespectful to the American people."

However, Zelenskyy himself exhaustively explained the reasons for the transition to military style in an interview with the BBC on the first anniversary of the full-scale Russian invasion.

"It was very strange – my suit. Times have changed, and it was uncomfortable to talk to people in such a difficult situation. I wanted to show them that I supported them and that I was staying here. And, of course, I didn't bring my suit with me. And then someone from my team, one of my assistants, said: "Why don't you try this?" I had some military clothes. And I said: "Yes, of course," and I put on this. It was more comfortable and understandable for people. After all, it's war, and it's very strange when it's war and you're wearing a suit," the Ukrainian president explained at the time.

On February 28, Zelenskyy met with Trump at the White House. The meeting unexpectedly escalated into a heated argument between the two presidents. In particular, Zelenskyy's statement that "Putin cannot be trusted, he has violated the agreements 25 times" and that Ukraine needs guarantees that Russia will not attack again after gathering its strength was the reason for the American president's anger and accusations against the head of Ukraine. Subsequently, there were even claims of "disrespect," which allegedly manifested itself in Zelenskyy's "rolling his eyes and shrugging his shoulders."

After that, the Ukrainian team left the White House. Trump said that Zelenskyy was "not ready for negotiations" and that "he can come back when he is ready for peace." Instead, the Ukrainian president spoke with Macron and Rutte after his meeting with Trump, and then gave an interview to Fox News in which he emphasized the role of the United States in Ukraine's ability to survive and explained why security guarantees were important.

However, the White House continues to insist that Zelenskyy must apologize for the "wasted time" and "fiasco" he allegedly turned the meeting with Trump and Vance into.
